Birch Bayh Federal Building and US Court House
Case Study

The Challenge

The Birch Bayh Federal Building and United States Court House in Indianapolis has a storied history that involves everything from the Post Office to Charles Manson. Years ago, they created a Visitor Guide to inform guests of the history behind many of the court rooms, sculptures, and pieces of art featured throughout the building. However, the guide was in desperate need of a design update, and many of the most interesting stories of the Court House were not properly given their due.

As the Court House prepared to take on more group tours, Radius was called in to tackle the redesign of the Visitor Guide. Our job was to identify what was missing in the current guide, include more notable stories, and better represent the beautiful artwork and architecture guests would see as they traveled through the building.

Radius Delivered

After taking a tour of the Court House, the Radius team discovered that some of the most interesting stories we learned from our personal tour guide were not included in the current Visitor Guide. As we reworked the written content, we added in new pages and sections to include these new, fascinating details to give guests a better, more entertaining perspective on the building’s history.

The biggest undertaking was bringing the Visitor Guide’s design into present day. The previous guide had a very simple layout and used the same marble-esque border on each page in an attempt to tie into the style of the building.

In the new Visitor Guide, we used a more modern layout to more prominently highlight photos of the stunning architectural features and pieces of art featured in the building. We expanded the color palette to include shades that complemented the building’s natural beauty and called out interesting facts with eye-catching blocks of text. Radius also took new photographs of the building as well as the current group of judges to give visitors the best possible view of the historic Birch Bayh Federal Building and US Court House.
