New York Health + Hospitals
Case Study

The Challenge

To better understand and improve patient-centered communication throughout the New York healthcare system, New York Health + Hospitals created an assessment for its member organizations that frequently served immigrant populations and uninsured members of the local community. The assessment asked participants a variety of questions, including their evaluation of the organization’s cultural competence and health literacy. New York Health + Hospitals leaders planned to use the feedback to gauge the state of effective communication between workers and patients and identify any other skills or training needed to serve the local population.

To achieve a successful assessment, New York Health + Hospitals needed support from member organizations across the local healthcare spectrum. To encourage participation, they turned to Radius to help drive awareness.

Radius Delivered

Radius crafted a communication strategy for New York Health + Hospitals that focused on the beneficial outcomes the assessment would produce. Participants needed to understand that their involvement would directly shape the future of the organization and improve the level of care patients would receive.

To explain the value of the assessment, Radius developed a website and email campaign with three main objectives:

Convey the overall purpose of the assessment,
Explain the process of completing the assessment,
Create buy-in for the resulting improvements.

Radius also produced two videos to support the campaign and engage the audience. The “Purpose Video” featured interview of key officials discussing the goals of the assessment, and the “Instructional Video” gave a short walk-through of the entire assessment process to make it simpler for participants to understand.

Ultimately, Radius found the most effective way to create awareness was to position informational materials in heavily trafficked areas at each location. We designed posters to hang in common walkways, table tents to display in break rooms, and flyers to place inside employee mailboxes. These efforts helped New York Health + Hospitals receive the participation they needed to identify needed improvements and guide the future of the organization.
